PRITI JAIN’S BAIL EXTENDED BY THE BOMBAY HIGH COURT

 

The Bombay high court has extended the bail of aspiring actress Priti Jain.

On April 28, 2017, Sessions court has sentenced her three years’ imprisonment on ground of plotting the murder of Madhur Bhandarkar (in 2004) who was a Bollywood filmmaker which came into picture when she approached the Akhil Bharatiya Sena in order to recover Rs`40,000. She had allegedly paid this amount to the accused Naresh Pardeshi for the murder of  Bhandarkar.

The high court also allowed Jain’s appeal against conviction. It has also directed the state to file its reply by June 7.

  1. Makarand Karnik of the Bombay high court was hearing aspiring actress Priti Jain’s appeal. Sujit Shelar who was her counsel informed the court that Priti Jain had been convicted by a Mumbai Sessions court for three years for Bhandarkar’s murder and with various other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Shelar also said that Jain’s conviction was suspended by the trial court and the court granted her bail for four weeks which would be over on May 26.

The high court has now extended Jain’s bail. Also, it asked the state government to file its reply before a regular bench on the next date of hearing. According to Advocate Shelar they have mentioned in their appeal that Priti Jain’s conviction ‘shall be set aside as the FIR was doubtful. Also, the prosecution had failed to prove the motive of the offence. Key witnesses like hotel managers who had seen the accused were not examined by prosecution.
