Delhi High Court Directs Quota In Shop Allotment For People With Disabilities

The Delhi High Court has asked authorities to reserve a five per cent quota in allotment of shops for people having disabilities.

The direction came in response to a plea filed for the correct implementation of Section 43 of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation), Act, 1995.

The plea stated that the authorities including the Union Ministry of Urban Development and the Directorate of Estates, were violating the provisions of Section 43 by not providing 3 per cent quota for those with disabilities while making allotment of public spaces/shops.

The court has also directed that a fresh roster be prepared by the respondents in accordance with the new Act and be placed in the public domain within a period of six weeks.
