Legal News: Ram Vilas Paswan: Implementation of food Law across India from November

Implementation of National Food Security Law, covering the entire nation from November and majorly two states Kerela and Tamil Nadu, entailing an annual subsidy of over Rs.1.4 lakh crore is coming on board, said the government today. As many as 80 crore people are covered under this law across 36 states and union territories. Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan very proudly said at a press conference, “When we came to power the food law was being implemented only in 11 states. I am happy to share that food security law is being implemented in all states and union territories”, he said. He further said that only two states, kerala and Tamil Nadu were left, and they too are now being brought under the law from this November, he said.

Under the law that was passed by the Parliament in 2013, the government provides 5kg of highly subsidized food grains per person, per month at Rs. 1-3 per kg.

Paswan said, on the subsidy outgo, it will be Rs.11,726 crore per month or about Rs. 1,40,700 crore anually.
