Delhi High Court Asks AAP Government To Explain Delay In Recruiting 1540 Special Educators

The Delhi High Court has asked the AAP government to respond in regards to the alleged delay in filling up 1540 posts of special educators in municipal schools in the capital city.

A bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar has also sent a notice to Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board and South Delhi Municipal Corporation to respond to the plea which alleges so far the authorities have failed to even conduct the examinations for these posts.

The authorities are required to submit their status reports before the next date of hearing on January 23.

Nearly 90 % Schools Lack Special Educators

The court passed the order while hearing an application filed by advocate Ashok Agarwal that asks the court to direct the immediate issuance of dates for examination for filling up of the posts as given in the advertisements released last year.

The plea notes that following the high court’s September 2009 order, the unified MCD had created nearly 1741 posts of special educators, but 1540 posts of them are still lying vacant.  This implies that 89 per cent posts of special educators in MCD- run schools are yet to be filled, it stated.

Agarwal alleged that the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board was “just sitting over the matter ignoring the seriousness of the same.”

Parents Allege Children Have Learnt Nothing

The application was moved in regards to a petition by Mamta Devi and her husband Shyam Nandan, who are vegetable sellers in Katwaria Sarai in south Delhi.

Mamta Devi has stated in her plea that her two sons with special needs have studied in government and municipality-run schools for several years, but have not learned anything, instead were made a source of entertainment.

The petitioners have said that their disabled sons are not going to school due to the lack of special educators.
