Lawyers Union Condemns Rajasthan’s “Undemocratic” Gag Ordinance

The All India Lawyers Union has criticised the controversial ordinance passed by the Rajasthan government protecting public servants, judges and magistrates from being investigated without prior permission, stating that it reflected the “authoritarian” nature of the state government.

Calling the order “undemocratic”, “unconstitutional”, and “oppressive”, the lawyers’ body has demanded that the Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill, 2017 be withdrawn immediately.

The AILU’s Delhi branch issued a statement pointing out that the order was a demonstration of the authoritarian attitude of the BJP government in Rajasthan.
