Mumbai University Law Students Stunned By Release Of Fourth LLM Merit Admission List

The release of a fourth merit list by Mumbai University’s Department of Law for admissions to its LLM course has shocked students pursing the course.

The third merit list had been put out a month earlier.  The current semester’s lectures were wrapped up last week, and the university’s exams for the first semester are scheduled to start on January 15.

Admission Process Marred By Controversy
The University’s LLM admission process has been mired in controversy this year with court cases delaying it repeatedly.

Several students who had been waiting for their much delayed LLB results had petitioned the courts to seek more time to fill out LLM admission forms, which further delayed the process.

The students criticised the selection process after the first merit list was released in the second week of October and also when the third one was issued in the last week of November.

Students Requesting Delay In Exam

A student of the criminology course asked how exams could be held when admissions were still ongoing, highlighting  that the latest merit list contained names of at least 60 students who need to complete their admission formalities within the next two days.

Further the student pointed out that the classes had been held for just a month.  Students are reportedly trying to gather signatures for a plea requesting the postponement of exams.

Another student said that although many don’t attend the course regularly, a weeks’ crash course would be helpful for students to get used to the LLM pattern of examination. The student pointed out that in LLM unlike LLB only four questions of 25 marks each were given.

The student further highlighted that the delay in results and the admission process was not the fault of the students.

Officials from the university’s department were not available for comment.
