Top Law Firm JSA Appoints Four New Equity Partners After Two Senior Partners Quit

Three new equity partners – Ananya Kumar, Anish Mashruwala, Raj Ramachandran and Ravichandra Hegde  – have been inducted by law firm J Sagar Associates (JSA), starting April 1.

Counted amongst India’s top eight law companies, J Sagar has nearly 90 partners and around 300 lawyers.

Earlier, two of the firm’s senior equity partners, Murali Ananthasivan and Mansoor Ali Shoket, announced that they are quitting the firm and setting up their own practice.

Ananthasivan is based out of Bengaluru and is a mergers and acquisitions specialist. He is also a member of the law firm’s executive committee. Shoket is Delhi based and heads the communications (telecom and broadcasting) practice at JSA.

A press note released by J Sagar stated that Shoket’s team would be absorbed into the regulatory practice that is works out of Delhi.

New Partners Bring Wide Range of Expertise

Kumar who is based in Delhi works with the disputes practice team, and specializes in construction and engineering related disputes. He additionally represents clients in arbitrations and also court proceedings that arise out of shareholder and joint venture agreements.

Mashruwala works out of Mumbai and is a part of the finance practice. He specializes in banking and finance, and has experience of working in areas like securitisation and derivatives, structured finance, and bank loans.

Ramachandran who is Bengaluru based works with the corporate practice and specializes in private equity and venture capital. The areas he usually handles are corporate commercial, cross-border investments and acquisitions, and banking and finance.

Hegde is based in Mumbai and is a part of the disputes practice. His area of speciality is securities regulatory and litigation, under which he handles diverse issues in litigation and dispute resolution, in addition to offering advisory and opinion on numerous laws relating to corporate commercial, securities and business, and mercantile subjects.

Firm Believes In Recognising Merit

A joint statement issued by the firm’s joint managing partners Dina Wadia and Shivpriya Nanda, and senior partner Amit Kapur, stated that JSA aimed at “recognising merit” and offering young attorneys the necessary “recognition and space” to reach their true potential

In 2017, JSA had handled 62 merger and acquisition, and private equity deals.

In the recent past, Sumit Sinha quit the law firm to  join the mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital advisory practice of DMD Advocates.  In August 2017, Kannan Rahul, from the JSA’s banking and financial services practice, shifted to Trilegal to join as an equity partner of the law firm’s banking and finance practice.
