White Collar Crimes (Meaning & Definition)

What are White Collar Crimes?

The violation of law committed by a person or group of persons in the course of a respected and legitimate occupation or business enterprise is termed as a White Collar Crime.

Edwin H. Sutherland defines White Collar Crimes saying- “White-Collar crime is committed by a person of respectability and high social status in the course of his occupation”.

Because White Collar crimes are organised crimes and can be committed only by the participation or cooperation of several persons, these crimes are called as “Corporate Crimes” or “Occupational Crimes”.
